A Story of God's Faithfulness

Moss Bluff Baptist Church is a testament to the faithfulness of God and countless servants who desired to see his name glorified in Marion County.  The first church here was the Long Lake Congregational Church, organized October 9th, 1894 with 18 members.  Meetings were held once a month with morning and evening services.  The last recorded regular meeting of this congregation was in 1931.

The building was mainly unused from 1931 until 1953 when Moss Bluff Baptist Church was formed.  On September 10th, 1953, the Moss Bluff Baptist Church was established by a group of members from Ocklawaha Baptist Church who began to hold services in the former Congregational Church building.  A new church sanctuary was dedicated on October 6th, 1968.

On February 18th, 1973 the new building and the old building Congregational church building burned in a fire that also destroyed many of the church records.  The only thing salvaged from the fire was a piano and the original church bell from 1894.  The bell was damaged from the fire, but was repaired and is now part of our sign located in the front of the church.  However, God was not finished with Moss Bluff Baptist Church.

Desiring to continue to meet, for a year the congregation continued to meet at the home of a faithful servant named Louise O'Neal.   During this time donations poured in from the Marion Baptist Association and neighboring churches.  When the present church was finished over half of the cost of the building was donated,  praise God for the generosity of His people!  The Dedication for a new building was held in April 1976.

Due to growth, ground breaking for a new church building was held in June 1991.   The building progressed slowly as the money was provided for the materials and friends from neighboring churches donated the labor.   What a commitment from God's people!  The building was completed on March 19th, 1995.  A major remodeling project was also completed in 1997-1998 to expand the sanctuary with more seating capacity and other improvements.  We stand on the shoulders of giants - it is a honor to continue to serve our Lord and those who gave sacrificially to see the Gospel preached.
